WIT Conference 2018

Joining Women in Tourism offers a range of valuable benefits including a mentoring session and discounted networking and industry events. Why not come along to one of our events or get in touch with any of our board members or members to find out more?

WIT was founded in 2015 and became a membership organisation in 2017. It is currently run and managed in a voluntary capacity. Read on to find out how you can benefit from joining.

  • Be part of a growing professional community of women in the tourism and hospitality industry who get together to support and inspire, motivate, and encourage women across the sector; and advocate for greater gender balance across leadership roles within industry.
  • Tap into a powerful network of industry professionals and make new industry connections.
  • Get access to a 60-minute mentoring session as part of your membership and/or take part in a skills swap with another member: WIT will facilitate this for you as part of your membership. Several members have benefited from being mentors and mentees to date.
  • Enjoy the opportunity to contribute your skills and experience to WIT working groups on Membership, Events and Communications and other activities.
  • Enjoy a range of discounted (and free) networking events throughout the year, from regular and informal WIT Wednesdays, such as breakfast get-togethers, coffee, and evening drinks; to more formal industry events taking place across Scotland, with relevant industry speakers on industry topics that matter to you. Events are discounted for students too.
  • Be part of Women in Tourism industry initiatives such as the annual Young Women in Tourism Awards and special WIT industry events.
  • Opportunity to showcase your venue/business by hosting or contributing to WIT events.
  • Get access to a dedicated smartphone app with a members-only area.
  • Exchange ideas and insights, learn from your peers, give something back to your sector. Whatever stage you are at in your career, you have something valuable to offer WIT and lots to gain from membership and making connections.
  • Keep up to date on what’s happening in the tourism industry via regular e-news, events, and more.
  • Contribute to Women in Tourism guest blogs and articles such as our monthly Women to Write Home About series or write on relevant industry topics for us.

Women in Tourism member Fiona Richmond, Head of Regional Food, Scotland Food & Drink, says of WIT, “It’s doing such great work to raise the profile of women in the industry and to motivate and encourage others to both enter the profession and progress. I feel so strongly about the power of networks and our collective responsibility to help each other.”
