Board Director vacancies now live

Women in Tourism International Women's Day luncheon.

Women In Tourism are seeking new Board Directors to join the membership organisation.  In October 2024 it was announced that the Chair of WIT is stepping down after nearly a decade in post.  This coincides with a few of the Directors also stepping down due to completion of service.  We are now actively recruiting new Board Directors to join the existing Directors and invite applications from interested parties.

Background

Women In Tourism (WIT) was created in June 2015 by a small group of destination leaders who are all passionate about the Scottish tourism industry and recognise both the challenges and opportunities for women within the sector.  The founding principles of WIT are to inspire, motivate, encourage and support women across the sector; while advocating for greater gender balance across leadership roles within industry.

Remuneration & Time Commitment

The Board meets four times per year, with meetings generally held at 4pm for 2 hours (hybrid) but, will occasionally meet for longer and further afield. The position is unremunerated, but expenses can be paid on request. As a Director of the company, you will exercise corporate responsibilities for the business and help drive its development both financially and in strength of voice to benefit our members and the industry.

Experience and Skills

  1. Ability to contribute to the work of the WIT Board, ensuring the organisation remains relevant to all stakeholders. You will support and advocate for our founding principles.
  2. Ability to contribute effectively to strategic planning processes.
  3. Someone with a ‘can do’ attitude who is willing and committed to support with administrative duties which may include, but are not limited to:
    1. Welcoming new members; managing renewals, driving the membership recruitment strategy and ensuring retention of members.
    2. Creating and delivering events across Scotland to engage with both moments and the wider Scottish tourism industry,
    3. Support the financial health of the organisation by issuing invoices, managing payments and liaison with the WIT accountant on any company requirements.
  4. Ability to challenge constructively and contribute to priority setting within a Board environment.
  5. Ability to communicate clearly and effectively to a range of stakeholders.
  6. Knowledge and understanding of the role & responsibilities of a Company Director.
