The Board of Women in Tourism are delighted to announce the incoming Chair for the organisation.  Formally constituted in 2017 with the founding principles to motivate, support and encourage women into positions of leadership, Women in Tourism has grown to be a nationally recognised body supporting women across Scotland’s tourism sector.

With over 20 years in the tourism and hospitality industry, Lesley Williams has made significant contributions to the industry.  From her early career as Head of Sales at the Edinburgh International Conference Centre to her current role as an independent consultant Lesley continues to support SME’s across the country.  Recently Managing Director of BestCities Global Alliance, Lesley also serves as a Director and Trustee of the Royal Yacht Britannia.

Lesley’s passion for the sector will undoubtedly come to the fore as she works with the Board to lead the organisation into its next stages of development.

On the announcement, Lesley said “I’m absolutely thrilled to be appointed as Chair of Women in Tourism. Over the past 10 years, the organisation has made a real impact, and I look forward to building on that success and evolving to thrive in today’s dynamic landscape. Together, we’ll continue to celebrate and champion the incredible women in our industry, provide education and meaningful networking, and work towards a truly inclusive and diverse tourism sector.”

Commenting on the appointment, Susan Russell, outgoing Chair of Women in Tourism said ‘I’m delighted that Lesley is taking up the role as Chair of Women in Tourism.  Leading the Board has been one of the greatest privileges of my career and I will forever be the biggest advocate for this important organisation.”

Lesley has been appointed following a formal recruitment process at the end of 2024.  She will take up post on 01 April 2025 when Founder Susan Russell steps down after nearly ten years leading the organisation.
