On International Women’s Day, we are delighted to announce the search for the 2022 Top 100 Women In Tourism.  Initially launched in 2018, this important, bi-annual initiative, recognises women working across Scotland’s tourism sector, at every stage of their career.  From students starting out, to those nearing retirement, nominations are sought to recognise women doing great things within the sector they are passionate about.

Peer-nominated, previous winners have worked across every area of the tourism economy.  From hotels to visitor attractions, consultants to social influencers; and business owners to tour operators, each former recipient has shown their passion and dedication to tourism.  As our sector continues to recover from the pandemic, recognising and celebrating those working within tourism has never been more important.

Commenting on the launch, Susan Russell, Chair of Women In Tourism, said:

“We launched the Top 100 initiative to recognise the fantastic work that women within our sector are doing at every stage of their career.  The pandemic has had a fundamental impact on us individually, and collectively, and it’s important that we take a moment celebrate the amazing achievements of those working across the industry.

Previous winners have been from the length and breadth of Scotland, and as we launch the drive for the 2022 Top 100, we can’t wait to hear about why everyone is being nominated.  Now, more than ever, we need to shine a light on our passionate and hard-working colleagues.”

Supporting the launch, Malcolm Roughead, Chief Executive of VisitScotland, said:

“The Top 100 Women in Tourism offers a great opportunity for spotlighting the incredible work that women have done, and continue to do, in our sector. I was incredibly proud to see some of our staff feature in the 2020 list and would encourage the industry to support this fantastic initiative.”

Marc Crothall, Chief Executive of the Scottish Tourism Alliance also said:

“As an organisation which currently has two previous winners of the Top 100 Women in Tourism awards as part of our team, I would highly encourage all working within Scotland’s tourism industry to nominate women you have worked with who have shown extraordinary dedication, commitment and drive, particularly throughout the challenges of the past two years.  This is more than award, it is recognition of the thousands of women in our sector, each of whom bring a unique set of skills, talent, experience and flair to their jobs and organisations and contribute passionately to making Scotland’s tourism product one of the best in the world.”

Nominations closed at 5 pm on Thursday 14th April 2022.
