Future Industry Leader Sought by Women in Tourism

YOYP 2018

In celebration of Scotland’s Year of Young People, this morning Women In Tourism launched a campaign to recruit a young person to join them as a Board member throughout 2018.

The national membership organisation which was created to motivate, inspire, support and encourage women across the sector, recognise the importance of the themed year and the opportunity to support the next generation of industry leaders.

Joining the Women In Tourism board throughout 2018, applications are sought from those working within the Scottish tourism sector who are aged between 18-34 years old.  The successful individual will play a key role as they work with the rest of the board to develop and deliver the work of the organisation, with particular responsibility for delivering a Year of Young People industry event during the year.

Research published by Women In Tourism in March 2016 identified that while 27% of women have previously had the opportunity to be mentored by a colleague, 78% would welcome a mentoring opportunity.  Today’s announcement responds to this finding and also supports the wider delivery of a Women In Tourism mentoring service which is being offered to members from January.

Susan Russell, Chair of Women In Tourism, said: Scotland’s Year of Young People is an exciting opportunity to shine a spotlight on the next generation of industry leaders.  The Women In Tourism board are delighted to be a part of the celebratory year and are excited to launch our recruitment drive for a new board member to join us next year.

The successful candidate will play a key role in developing and delivering the work of the organisation and we look forward to supporting and mentoring them throughout the year.”

Interviews are being held w/c 12th February with the new board member announced at the start of Scottish Tourism Month.
