Women in Tourism Top 100: Industry Response

WIT Top 100

The industry response to the very first Women in Tourism Top 100 list has been overwhelmingly positive, so we wanted to share some of the feedback and comments with you.

With such an illustrious industry list, compiled from nominations by the Women in Tourism community, we were looking forward to a positive response from the sector, but nothing prepared us for the volume and warmth of the reactions. Our Twitter account went crazy for a couple of days. Thank you for all the tweets and emails.

It was refreshing to see so many affirmations of mutual support between women in the sector, and fantastic support from our male counterparts too. The delight of those nominated was clear in the messages we received.

It was also encouraging to see so many organisations in the tourism sector go on to celebrate the nominations in their own communications, and to see the WIT news on the Top 100 being shared by the wider tourism industry.

The WIT team was pleased to receive recognition from the Cabinet Secretary for Culture, Tourism and External Affairs, Fiona Hyslop, who tweeted that:Scottish tourism is full of talented women shaping and growing the sector: well done to all involved and to WIT for the initative.”

From food and drink to tech, bed and breakfasts to whisky, visitor attractions to hotels, business tourism to events, and more, tourism, events and hospitality professionals across the UK tweeted, messaged and emailed their delight at being nominated, and sent their support for others on the list.

Here we share just a small selection of industry responses and messages from some of our nominees.

Businesswoman and owner Emma Clark of Glenegedale House, Isle of Islay, said: “I am so honoured to have found out this morning that I have been listed as one of the top 100 women in tourism. #WWTop100 what an incredibly amazing list of women that I am amongst. This is always only possible with Graeme by my side and the most amazing guests choosing to stay with us. Thank you @WIT”.

Other WIT Top 100 nominees said:

“A fantastic campaign WIT have launched to highlight the amazing, talented, hard-working women we have in the tourism industry and I congratulate you and the team for putting this together.”

I am overwhelmed to have seen my work recognised at this level, especially when I read the names of the other recipients.”

Congratulations on pulling this together & giving women so much support and encouragement.”
