Find out more about the Awards – extended closing date for entries: 17 May 2019.

The Young Women in Tourism Awards are the next step in continuing to support our emerging leaders and aim to recognise young women who are working or studying within the tourism sector in Scotland.

WIT board member Julia MacGregor shares her thoughts below on the awards and why young women in tourism should apply:

I’m really excited to be a part of the first Young Women in Tourism Awards. They are a brilliant opportunity for anyone starting out, or even studying and considering a career in the tourism industry.

Each of the 4 categories (Rising Star of the Year, Tourism Influencer of the Year, Tourism Entrepreneur of the Year, Tourism Student of the Year)  is backed by an industry sponsor who will provide an invaluable work experience or mentoring opportunity to the winner. Access to mentoring and a network like women in Tourism is something I really wished I’d had when I was starting out.

Since joining WIT I have made so many great connections – whether that’s been opportunities in relation to my current post at Apex Hotels, or simply as a support network. My confidence has grown, as has my knowledge of the sector – and there’s still so much to learn!

Support and encouragement for young women needs to come not just from peers but from management level and above, and I’ve been extremely fortunate to work under supportive leaders, and my involvement in WIT is really down to that.

Even the action of applying for an award and an opportunity like this really helps focus the mind and build confidence, so please, get your applications in! Can’t wait to discover and meet all the talented young women who apply!
