Today (June 8, 2020) marks the fifth anniversary since the first gathering of a group of destination leaders to discuss the opportunity for the creation of an industry group to support women into positions of leadership within the sector.

Since then Women in Tourism has worked with colleagues and organisations across the sector to provide a platform for networking, personal and professional development, and mentoring.

Susan Russell, Chair of Women In Tourism, said: “We’re delighted to launch today’s campaign which has been designed to shine a light on the inspiring, motivational, and passionate women working within Scotland’s tourism sector.  This is an extremely challenging time for everyone working within our industry and there is no more important a time than now to recognise and support our colleagues.

The Top 100 should reflect the sector as a whole – from those starting out in the industry to those who have defined a career in delivering a warm welcome to visitors from around the world.”

The inaugural Women In Tourism Top 100 was announced in July 2018 in response to the Caterer Magazine’s Top 100 Most Powerful people in hospitality which recognised only 13 women.
